MACC hints more arrests over release of undocumented immigrants

The case of a Selangor Sessions Court judge, deputy public prosecutor and lawyer arrested for alleged bribery related to the release of undocumented immigrants is not an isolated case, MACC Chief Commissioner Latheefa Koya said.
"It involves the whole eco-system. We did not only arrest a judge, a DPP and lawyer, but a bunch of police officers allegedly involved in the case as well," she said yesterday, during her first visit to Penang since her appointment as MACC chief in May.
The six police officers are with the Hulu Selangor District police headquarters.
Latheefa said the 45-year-old judge, who was arrested on Sunday while seeking treatment in a hospital for chest pains, was remanded for two days by her office.
The lawyer and deputy public prosecutor, whose remands ended on Sunday, were continued to be held until yesterday.
"We hope to wrap up the case pretty soon," Latheefa added at a press conference in the state MACC headquarters in George Town.
Accompanying her at the event was MACC operations director Azam Baki.
While saying that the case is not isolated to Selangor alone, Latheefa declined to reveal details of the next arrests.
"But the point is, this is a very serious thing, involving high-level officers, not just mere cops receiving bribes," she said. - Mkini
