MACC: More details needed to act on anonymous complaints against Ketapi, Nazri

A lengthy anonymous complaint letter, purportedly written by high-ranking officials within the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, is not likely to be treated seriously unless backed by details and proof.
The letter, which is dated June 15, 2019 and addressed to Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, contains a litany of complaints about the current minister Mohamaddin Ketapi, and even refers to his predecessor Nazri Aziz.
MACC chief Latheefa Koya (above) acknowledged receiving a copy, but is not likely to follow-up unless details are forthcoming.
"I have received this, but frankly it has to be better than this long letter. We need some grounds," she told Malaysiakini.
"Complaints of a general nature like this doesn’t help- it only means it will take a longer time, before we get hard evidence."
"A big chunk of the complaints are administrative and political meant for the PM. For the MACC, we need more time to gather evidence and stuff. But if this letter has been going around, the alleged culprits would probably do it more carefully."
The letter claims to be from a Ministry officer representing himself/herself and a number of colleagues with the high grades of 48 to 54 in the civil service.
It contains allusions to corruption, cronyism and incompetence.
The letter claims that while employees were happy with the Pakatan Harapan victory, the Barisan Nasional feudal culture has been maintained and a servile attitude is encouraged from staff.
It alleges that the ministry has too many political appointees who are unqualified for their roles, and questions the minister's competence in parliament.
Doubts over the future of the Malaysia Tourism Centre building (above) in Jalan Ampang are also raised.
Sources from within Ketapi's office told Malaysiakini, "We are not going to entertain an unsubstantiated poison-pen letter. It doesn't have a name or an individual's signature."
They revealed that even though the letter is dated June 15, it had been in circulation before that.
"We have seen the letter since May. If they think that they are right and they have proof, they should use a proper channel to do it."
Malaysiakini is attempting to get a response from the Prime Minister's Office and Nazri. - Mkini
