Manhunt launched for man who attacked construction worker with a hammer


KOTA KINABALU: A construction worker was hit in the head with a hammer during a misunderstanding over a loan in Penampang near here on Saturday (July 27).
Penampang police chief Deputy Supt Mohd Haris Ibrahim (pic) said in the 7.30am incident, the victim, in his 30s, was sitting outside his workers quarters when his neighbour came over.
“The neighbour had lent the victim some money and he had gone to ask for it back as the promise was to return the money after three days, ” Supt Haris said.
He said the victim was not able to pay the debt and an argument ensued.

DSP Haris said the victim tried walking away from the fight but was hit in the head with a hammer as he turned his back on the suspect.

The suspect immediately fled the scene with his wife.
“Both these men are foreigners, ” he said, adding that others who witnessed the incident immediately took the victim to the hospital.
DSP Haris said the victim sustained serious injuries to his head with fractures to his skull.
“A manhunt has been mounted for the suspect and this case is being investigated for causing hurt using a weapon, ” he said. - Star
