Prosecution claims Ku Nan sought RM6m from developer for by-elections

The prosecution in Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor's RM2 million corruption case is seeking to prove that the BN secretary-general sought between RM5 million and RM6 million from a private developer for use in by-elections.
In her opening statement, deputy public prosecutor Julia Ibrahim said Tengku Adnan had appealed to Aset Kayamas Sdn Bhd owner Chai Kin Kong for the funds.
"Chai gave RM2 million for that purpose (the by-elections) through a Hong Leong Islamic Bank cheque number 136822 dated June 14, 2016 from Aset Kayamas, paid to Tadmansori Holding Sdn Bhd," she told the court today.
Tengku Adnan is the principal shareholder of Tadmansori Holding.
While the prosecution did not specify which by-elections the money was used for, the June 2016 date coincides with the twin Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar polls.
Tengku Adnan is on trial in his capacity as then-Federal Territories minister for receiving RM2 million from Chai.
Aset Kayamas does business with Kuala Lumpur City Hall, which Tengku Adnan oversaw as minister.
The first witness in the case, Companies Commission assistant registrar Muhamad Akmaludin Abdullah, testified that Tengku Adnan was the main shareholder in Tadmansori Holding, with RM99,999,996 of the RM100 million shares.
He also said that that three of the Putrajaya MP's sons were directors of the company.
The second witness, Taman Setiawanga CIMB branch assistant manager Khairolrony Kamarudin, verified a cheque issued from Aset Kayamas to Tadmansori Holding.
Under cross-examination by lead defence counsel Tan Hock Chuan, however, Khairolrony said he did not know what the cheque was for.
Citing a bank statement, Tan also suggested that the June 14, 2016 transaction was just one of four deposits of RM2 million made around the same time.
The trial continues at 2pm with two more witnesses testimonies.
