TELUK INTAN: Three dengue cases were reported in Kampung Pelawan here and one person has died from the disease, says the Perak Health Department.
Its director Datuk Dr Ding Lay Ming said the Hilir Perak Health Department was notified about the first dengue incident on July 15, followed by two more cases on July 19.
"One patient is being treated at the Teluk Intan Hospital and the other was given outpatient treatment," she said in a statement Sunday (July 21).
Dr Ding said department officers have found a number of mosquito breeding grounds at the village.
"These included abandoned wells and ponds, empty cases and drums used to collect rubber sap scattered near rubber trees.
"We have also checked and destroyed the breeding spots at some 82 houses in the village," she said.

"We have also issued five compounds and four notices under Section 8(1) of the Destruction of Disease-Bearing Insects Act 1975 to premises found with Aedes mosquito breeding spots," she added.
Dr Ding said the department has also conducted larvaciding, fogging and ultra low volume spray at Kampung Pelawan A and B.
"We are going to have a meeting with the district dengue committee on July 24 and have a cleaning up activity with multiple agencies to stop the plague from spreading.
"As prevention steps, we would like to advise the public to be more alert of their surroundings and must dispose drums and containers properly to deter Aedes mosquitoes from breeding," she said.
"If they have fever, it is advisable for them to seek medical treatment," she added.- Star
