Witness: I met Nik Faisal around time of UBG deal

NAJIB TRIAL | Former AmBank relationship manager Joanna Yu Ging Ping had known SRC International Sdn Bhd CEO Nik Faisal Ariff Kamil as far back as 2008 during a deal involving Utama Banking Group Bhd (UBG), the Kuala Lumpur High Court heard today.
During cross-examination by former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak's defence counsel Harvinderjit Singh, the 54th witness said that she had known him long before 1MDB was officially established.
She said it was during a structuring of the UBG deal, among others.

"It involved several deals, with Swan (Symphony Sdn Bhd) and Binary (Bestari Sdn Bhd), but I was not involved in them. I came in for the Majestic (Masterpiece Sdn Bhd deal) in 2008," she said.
When Harvinderjit asked if she met Nik Faisal then in 2008, she said yes.
PetroSaudi, the Saudi oil firm that had a joint venture with 1MDB, privatised UBG in 2010.
UBG was earlier controlled by a firm owned by the family of former Sarawak chief minister and current governor Abdul Taib Mahmud.
Wanted businessperson Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho Low, was reported to have brokered UBG's privatisation.
The exchange between Harvinderjit and Yu took place during the 42nd day of Najib's trial involving the misappropriation of RM42 million from SRC International, a former 1MDB subsidiary.
Meanwhile, when asked by the defence lawyer, Yu said she did not know about Low having added her to a mailing list for the Terengganu Investment Authority (TIA).
The lawyer was referring to emails that Low was said to have sent out, in which the fugitive financier purportedly mentioned his involvement in the advisory board for TIA.
TIA later became 1MDB in 2009.
The trial will resume before Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali at 9am tomorrow. - Mkini
