TAPAH: A total of RM233.8mil in debts owed by Felcra settlers will be written off by the government, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

“We have learned there are more than 300 Felcra projects with lower viability and that over 20,000 settlers owe millions in debt.

“I understand the situation. How can the settlers pay their debts when they barely have any income?

“A suggestion was made to waive the debts and we (the government) agreed,” the caretaker Prime Minister said at a programme with Felcra, Risda and Jakoa smallholders at Dewan Arena Merdeka here on Monday (Oct 17).

Ismail Sabri said the next step would be having a meeting to discuss the procedures and terms.

“However, we can’t have any meetings yet since Parliament has been dissolved.

“We will make it come true if my friends (the Cabinet) and I can meet again after GE15,” he said.

Earlier, Ismail Sabri said nearly 75,000 Felcra settlers will receive RM181.5mil in taxable profits. - Star
