Ismail Sabri: What did Hadi mean by calling Umno 'murky' party?

Umno vice-president Ismail Sabri Yaakob today questioned remarks made by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang two days ago saying that Umno is in the “murky waters” of bribery.

The caretaker prime minister told reporters today that he himself could not understand what Hadi was trying to say.

“I don’t get what he meant by ‘keruh’ (murky). I hope we, especially from Umno and PAS, who had been trying to work together under Muafakat Nasional, should avoid accusing and insulting each other.

“As fellow Muslims, we are not supposed to attack each other, because the relationship can be mended in the future, and in politics, there are no permanent friends and no permanent enemies,” he said.

Ismail Sabri (above, left) was speaking to the media after launching the Bera BN election machinery in Pahang earlier today.

On Friday (Oct 14), Hadi during a sermon in Marang, Terengganu reportedly said PAS had no intention to be enemies with BN.

However, he said PAS found that BN was still “in murky waters” with its leaders involved in several corruption issues.

This is after he announced the day before that PAS will work on cooperating with Perikatan Nasional (PN) for the 15th general election.

“There is still something murky with BN. Corruption still not settled. We know that there are corruptors who were charged and falsely accused, but still, the cases have not been settled,” Hadi (above, right) said.

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said today that he is trying to avoid saying anything insulting to any party because it would not benefit anyone.

“In politics, we should avoid offending anyone, in case one day we might have to sit together again for the sake of Malay and Islam in this country. If we simply shoot our mouth, it can offend others,” he said.

At a separate event today, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi expressed a similar stance, saying he prefers not to shame PAS.

“We understand that his (Hadi’s) statement was personal, so we are not interested to respond.

“If I want to shame him, I could do that, but we have better akhlak (morals) than him so we do not want to shame anyone,” said Zahid at a press conference in Bagan Datuk, Perak.

“Especially those who are widely knowledgeable about religion. Do not use religion for political reasons, but what we should do is use politics to strengthen our religion,” he added. - Mkini
