KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional election candidates in Kelantan, Terengganu, and Kedah are to use the PAS symbol, the party’s secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said today.
He said the matter had received the “green light” from PN leaders.
He said PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin had issued a statement saying that he understood the rationale, which he took to mean that the decision had been made for PN candidates to campaign under the PAS logo.
PAS had previously decided that its candidates in the three states would use the party’s own symbol instead of the PN logo.
The party’s president, Abdul Hadi Awang, said PAS would be open to using other symbols in other states.
“Terengganu, Kelantan, and Kedah are PAS strongholds, (so) we will use the ‘moon’ symbol,” he said.
Perikatan Nasional comprises Bersatu, PAS, Gerakan, Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) and the Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP).
Takiyuddin said PN candidates were not allowed to use other election symbols in the three PAS-governed states.
He said the simultaneous use of the PAS logo among PN candidates was a strategy decided at the state level.
He pointed out that PKR, a member of Pakatan Harapan, had also used its own logo to contest the Johor state elections in March. - FMT
