Azmin: Foreign investment highest during Muhyiddin era

Foreign direct investment peaked in 2021 at RM309 billion and this was attributable to former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s administration, said Perikatan Nasional (PN) information chief Azmin Ali.

Speaking at a PN ceramah in Sepang, Selangor last night, Azmin, who is the senior minister of international trade and industry, said Malaysia achieved this despite the Covid-19 pandemic.

The figure, he said, involved foreign investment in the manufacturing, primary, and services sectors that was approved by the government.

“This means that when big companies enter Malaysia, our children will have jobs - not as labourers but as high-wage workers.

“When factories are opened, housing projects will follow. Makcik Kiah will be able to trade because she needs to feed workers,” said Azmin, according to Berita Bersatu.

Makcik Kiah was a pisang goreng seller Muhyiddin referred to in a speech on recipients of government aid that he gave in March 2020.

Azmin said Malaysia’s FDI success in 2021 was not the work of BN or Pakatan Harapan and that PN should be credited instead.

‘Extremist’ DAP won’t change

Meanwhile, Muhyiddin, who was also at the event, said that DAP - a Harapan component party - will never change its “extremist” ways.

He said that during his time in Harapan, he urged DAP’s Liew Chin Tong to advise the party to be “less extreme”.

“I told him that Malays don’t like DAP and now that (Bersatu and) DAP are allies, could you ask your party leaders to be less extreme? He agreed they are extreme.

“They are extreme because they touch on the Federal Constitution, the rights of the Malays, and the monarchy. They did all sorts of things.

“But in the end, they told me that the DAP political bureau refused,” he said.

Muhyiddin and Azmin were both attending an event which confirmed Bersatu women’s chief Rina Harun as the PN candidate for Sepang. - Mkini
