Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has denied claims that BN candidates were being made to sign a pledge to give him the mandate to form the next cabinet if BN wins the 15th general election (GE15).
“All lies,” Bernama quoted him replying briefly when asked to comment on the allegation.
Yesterday, The Vibes reported that BN candidates were made to sign a pledge to give Zahid (above) the mandate to form the next cabinet, despite him having publicly announced Ismail Sabri Yaakob - his subordinate in Umno - as BN's prime minister candidate.
Meanwhile, Zahid, who is also BN chairperson, refused to comment on speculations that incumbent Arau MP Shahidan Kassim has been dropped from the GE15 candidates' list for the parliamentary seat.
“Wait for tonight’s announcement for an explanation on the speculations,” he told reporters when met after attending the hearing of his corruption trial at the Kuala Lumpur High Court earlier today.
Shahidan in a Facebook post yesterday alluded to his possible exclusion from the GE15 race, describing it as the “saddest night”.
He also said that all BN operations centres in Arau have been closed and flags were taken down - supposedly the first time in history.
BN is set to announce its candidates’ list tonight, in which many incumbent Umno MPs are rumoured to be axed.
Aside from Shahidan, these also include incumbent Ketereh MP Annuar Musa, Noh Omar (Tanjong Karang), Tajuddin Abdul Rahman (Pasir Salak), Dr Adham Baba (Tenggara), Halimah Mohamed Sadique (Kota Tinggi), Zahidi Zainul Abidin (Padang Besar), Mohd Salim Sharif (Jempol), Ismail Abdul Muttalib (Maran), and Mastura Mohd Yazid (Kuala Kangsar). - Mkini
