PETALING JAYA: Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, who has been an elected representative since 1969, says the general election this month (GE15) might be his “last hurrah”.
It was time to make way for someone else to represent the people of Gua Musang, which he has represented since 1974.
Razaleigh, 85, has been its MP since 1986, and was the MP for Ulu Kelantan for three terms prior to that.
“This could possibly be the last hurrah for me,” he said at an event in Bukit Cekati, Kelantan here, according to Utusan Malaysia.
While the Umno veteran noted that there were many young leaders in Gua Musang, he said many locals wanted him to continue representing them, including the Orang Asli community.
Tengku Razaleigh, also known as Ku Li, is Malaysia’s longest-serving MP. However, he said this was no glamorous feat as it was about carrying out his responsibility well.
In the 2018 general election, Tengku Razaleigh defended the Gua Musang seat for a ninth term by a nearly 4,000-vote majority. - FMT
