PETALING JAYA: Several areas in Klang and Shah Alam have been hit by flash floods this afternoon.
Apart from SMK Meru, the Selangor fire and rescue department said other affected areas were Persiaran Hamzah Alang, Jalan Kasban, Jalan Kenangan, Jalan Khamis, Jalan Jabar and Taman Daya.
“The flash flood was due to heavy rain and clogged drains,” the department said in a statement.
However, the floodwaters have receded and none of the residents in the area had to be evacuated.
A statement issued at 5pm by the irrigation and drainage department (DID) said that based on rain forecasts by the meteorological department and DID’s flood-risk modelling, areas in Klang, such as Kg Teluk Gong, Taman Daya Meru, Meru town and the areas surrounding it, were at risk of flooding.
On Twitter, Muda deputy president Amira Aisya Abd Aziz shared a video of floodwaters seeping into an office and said that she was informed by Selangor Muda that several areas in Shah Alam and Klang had been hit by floods.
Meanwhile, Astro Traffic reported that a flash flood along Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari, next to the entrance of Greenhill Residence, had affected traffic flow to and from Alam Budiman and Puncak Alam.
Another user on Twitter, @heyizwanizzat, said that among the other areas affected by flash floods were Denai Alam, Alam Budiman, Setia Alam, Kampung Melayu Subang and Lotus’s Setia Alam.
“Shah Alam people, look for alternative roads. Water is rising in many areas,” warned another Twitter user @aquatulipns.
Several areas in Shah Alam were hit by flash floods following heavy rain on Tuesday.
Among the affected areas were Taman Sri Muda, Section 17, Section 24, Section 32, Section 36, Bukit Naga, Alam Impian and Bukit Jelutong. - FMT
