Cops seize contraband worth RM64.77mil, arrest 88

The seizure included smuggled goods and protected species under the Wildlife Conservation Act.

PETALING JAYA: Police seized RM64.77 million worth of smuggled goods in raids conducted from Jan 1 to 20.

Federal police secretary Noorsiah Saaduddin said 88 people were arrested in the raids, including 15 foreign nationals.

In a statement today, she said the haul comprised RM42,872,703 worth of smuggled goods seized under the Customs Act 1967, RM1,200,000 under the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010, RM7,724,000 under the Explosives Act 1957, RM10,769,704 under the Control of Supplies Act 1961, RM2,200,000 under Section 13(a) of the Poisons Act 1952, and RM5,200 under Section 170 of the Penal Code.

The raids were conducted by the Wildlife Crime Bureau and the special intelligence and investigation branch under Bukit Aman’s internal security and public order department.

Noorsiah said the public order department will continue to conduct raids to clamp down on smuggling and related crimes.
