Hishammuddin receives letter of suspension, no reason stated

Sembrong MP Hishammuddin Hussein has received the official letter of his suspension from Umno - four days after the decision was made by the party's supreme council.

"Just received an official letter dated yesterday pertaining to my suspension. No reason given for the suspension," he tweeted while sharing the letter.

According to the letter, signed by Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan, the suspension was in accordance with Clauses 10.6 and 5.9 of the Umno constitution, after Hishammuddin was found to have breached Clause 20.9 of the constitution regarding party ethics.

"The suspension will be in force for six years beginning Jan 27, 2023, or over two Umno supreme council terms," read the letter.

Last Friday, Hishammuddin (above) was suspended by Umno, following which he wrote a cryptic message on social media that went: "their evil must not make us lose our good."

In a separate 50-second video posted on his TikTok account, Hishammuddin stressed that the party’s disciplinary action against him is not the end of him, but a "new beginning".

Also suspended during the purge were incumbent deputy Umno Youth chief Shahril Hamdan Suffian, former Jempol MP Salim Sharif, and former Tiram assemblyperson Maulizan Bujang, while Khairy Jamaluddin and Noh Omar were sacked.

Noh was initially suspended for six years but he asked to be sacked instead. - Mkini
