PETALING JAYA: A report by human resources solutions agency Randstad Malaysia that employees in the technology, manufacturing and construction sectors can see a salary adjustment of up to 20% is not reflective of all sectors in the country, says the human resources ministry.
In a statement, minister V Sivakumar said the report could cause confusion among employees.
“This report does not reflect the entire employment sector in Malaysia and may also cause confusion in terms of setting the current minimum wage rate in the country.
“The revision to the current minimum wage, as well as the setting of the appropriate new minimum wage, is calculated using a formula which has been agreed upon by the employer, employees and the government.
“The current minimum wage will be revised every two years in accordance with Section 25(1) of the National Wages Consultative Council Act 2011,” he said.
In Randstad’s 2023 Job Market and Salary Trends Report released on Jan 17, the firm claimed that Malaysian employees could expect to see 3% to 20% salary adjustments in the technology, manufacturing and construction sectors.
The report surveyed 2,534 companies that employ more than 1,200 workers. - FMT
