KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 3 — Umno will decide on Thursday whether to extend an invitation to leaders of other parties in the unity government for the opening of the party’s general assembly (PAU) next week.

Its secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said the monthly meeting of the party’s supreme council will also discuss whether to provide a live feed of the delegates’ speeches during the general assembly.

“We will decide on these matters during the monthly meeting of the party’s supreme council on Thursday which will be chaired by the deputy president.

“On that night, Umno will also decide whether to extend an invitation to unity government leaders. Wait for the decision then,” he said during a press conference at Umno party headquarters here, today.

Ahmad also said the party election might to be raised during the same meeting.

“The party election has also not been discussed. Of course, it can be discussed on January 5 but there will be one more special meeting of the supreme council on January 12.

“Traditionally, this special meeting takes place during the general assembly once the three wings have completed their assemblies,” he said.

PAU 2022 will be held next week, starting with the concurrent opening of the assemblies of the Youth, Women and Puteri wings on January 11.

The general assembly will begin in earnest on January 13, with president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi giving his policy speech, which will be the only motion to be debated, as announced by Ahmad today.

Umno has stated it will hold its delayed party election within six months of the last general election but not during this particular general assembly. - Star
