PETALING JAYA: Motorists who were issued with RM1,000 summonses for parking offences in Klang yesterday have been asked to appeal to the municipal council to have their fines reduced.
Selangor executive councillor Ng Sze Han said he has discussed the matter with council president Noraini Roslan, who has agreed to consider all appeals favourably.
“I believe most of the offenders didn’t do it intentionally. I have discussed the matter with the council president. She advised the motorised to appeal directly to her to have their fines reduced,” he told FMT.
Ng said the motorists had violated the parking by-laws in parks and their action could result in damage to plants and other growths. He said the maximum compound fine is RM1,000 while it is RM2,000 if it goes to court.
He was commenting on an FMT report yesterday about 30 car owners who were up in arms after being slapped with RM1,000 compound fines by the council.
The motorists claimed that there were no signs barring them from parking in a field.
Most of them involved parents who had gone to support their children at a taekwondo competition held at a multipurpose hall at Taman Eng Ann. - FMT
