The plan to bring in Singaporean housing contractors to share their knowledge on building affordable homes in Malaysia is a violation of the country's safety and sovereignty, a Bersatu man has claimed.
Bersatu supreme council member Faiz Na'aman questioned whether Malaysia lacked local housing planning experts, or whether DAP's Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming had a specific agenda in pressing on with the plan.
"An independent country cannot compromise its security and sovereignty at any cost. Especially when the reason given does not make sense at all," Faiz said in a statement today.
He was responding to a recent report of Nga saying that the Singaporean government had given its approval for the country’s Housing and Development Board (HDB) flat contractors to visit his ministry next month to share their knowledge on building affordable housing.
"The move is a clear violation of the country's safety and sovereignty. This is because we worry that the Singaporean agency's involvement does not encompass building planning, but they are also given access to sensitive government information pertaining to demography.
"The question is what is so special about Singapore's HDB until they are given access to come to Malaysia? Do we (Malaysia) lack building planning specialists or is there a hidden agenda to make our housing arrangements like that of Singapore's?" he asked.
Faiz further questioned whether the plan to rope in Singaporean experts has the blessing of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
"Also, where is Umno? Has the party been silenced by DAP?
"I believe there's a grand political design behind this initiative. We all know that DAP has long brought in Singapore’s HDB and Hong Kong's HKHA (Hong Kong Housing Authority) models into Penang, and there, the locals can now only look at the properties, but can't afford to buy them," Faiz said. - Mkini
