Sabah BN and Warisan are backing Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's proposal for the formation of a unity government in Sabah.
However, at the time of writing, there was no indication if Chief Minister Hajiji Noor and lawmakers under the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) banner are agreeable to this proposal.
The proposal was put together by Anwar - who had to cut short his official trip abroad - last night, with Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in tow.
In a statement this morning, Sabah BN head Bung Moktar Radin said the proposal would help lower political temperatures but indicated that Hajiji has yet to agree to the deal.
"I hope the chief minister can accept the prime minister's proposal with an open heart to protect the interest of Sabahans," he said. [01]
A similar statement was issued by Warisan president Mohd Shafie Apdal last night.
Despite the olive branches, both Bung and Shafie have indicated that most or all of their assemblypersons will not be attending the special state assembly sitting today.
Bung explained that a number of BN assemblypersons will be in Kuala Lumpur to attend the Umno annual general assembly.
As for Shafie, he said Warisan assemblypersons will be busy working on establishing a new special committee that will determine the leadership of the new unity government.
However, both leaders pledged their support for the Sabah Energy Commission Bill 2023 and Gas Supply Bill 2023 - two cornerstone bills that the Hajiji-administration will be tabling today.
Last Friday, Sabah BN announced that they were withdrawing support for Hajiji to serve as chief minister.
This failed to dislodge Hajiji because five out of 18 Sabah BN lawmakers and seven Pakatan Harapan assemblypersons chose to stick with Hajiji.
As of last night, Hajiji is still expected to command the support of 44 out of 79 state assemblypersons.- Mkini
