PETALING JAYA: Graphic artist and activist Fahmi Reza has been questioned by the police over a democracy workshop that he hosted for Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) students in Penang during the general election campaign.
Several USM students had been questioned a month ago for taking part in the workshop, held in November.
In a Facebook post today, Fahmi wrote: “My first date with the police for 2023. I was called to give a statement in relation to Kelas Demokrasi @ USM during GE15. Thank God that my ‘appointment’ is only with Kuala Lumpur police and I don’t have to go all the way to Penang.”
He said an investigating officer had told him that police had taken statements from all witnesses, and that “no further action” might be taken on the case.
Last month, FMT reported that four USM students were questioned at George Town police headquarters. A student said the police asked him about what Fahmi had taught at the workshop and whether Fahmi had “incited” the students to vote for any particular political party. - FMT
