Court frees ex-Sedili rep charged with outraging modesty of woman

PETALING JAYA: The Muar magistrates’ court has freed former Sedili assemblyman Rasman Ithnain from a charge of outraging the modesty of a woman in a vehicle last year.

Magistrate Analia Kamaruddin, in a brief judgment, said the court found that the prosecution had failed to establish a prima facie case against Rasman.

Rasman was quoted by Berita Harian as saying that he was thankful for the court’s decision as it helped clear his name.

“I’m thankful this is over, as otherwise my reputation would continue to be tarnished. After three terms in politics, I have had to stay out  and was not able to contest (in GE15),” he said.

He said he harboured no ill will towards the complainant, adding that he could now return to politics.

He considered the case as a “test” which he and his family had to endure.

Rasman was the Sedili assemblyman between 2008 and last year.

He won the seat on an Umno ticket in the 14th general election, but later joined Bersatu.

He was not fielded in last year’s Johor state election or GE15.

In June last year, Rasman pleaded not guilty to a charge of outraging a woman’s modesty at around 5pm on Jan 13, 2022, in a white MPV.

The woman’s identity was withheld by the court. - FMT
