A restaurant helper was arrested by cops in Lembah Subang, Petaling Jaya two days ago after he beat up his teenage daughter with a belt and threatened to kill her with a parang.
According to Petaling Jaya district police chief Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid, the father was furious with his 15-year-old daughter for playing with her handphone until late at night.
He said police picked up the suspect, aged 56, about 10.30pm on Friday after receiving a report from his daughter earlier in the day.
“Initial investigation found that the suspect had used a meat cleaver to threaten his daughter. He had also beaten her up using a belt.
“The father is believed to be hot-tempered and he was angry with the victim for playing with her phone until late at night,” he said in a statement.
Police also seized a 13-inch meat cleaver from the suspect, who is now being remanded for four days.
Fakhrudin said the case is being investigated under Section 3(1)(A) of the Child Act 2001. - Mkini
