Permatang Pauh MP Muhammad Fawwaz Mohamad Jan said he has forgiven the administrator of his Facebook account, who was said to be responsible for posting a statement saying that infidels are trying to destroy Islam.
The PAS representative was quoted by Berita Harian Online this morning saying that he does not want the social media account administrator to feel guilty about the incident.
Fawwaz (above) also expressed his hope that the issue would not prolong as the posting has already been taken down, and that all humans make mistakes.
"Actually, the statement was uploaded by my Facebook admin without my knowledge.
"This was a mistake on the person's behalf, which I had to apologise for in case there are people who felt insulted by the statement posted.
"My Facebook account handler had also spoken to me about this issue and I have forgiven him. We are all humans, after all. We all make mistakes and I hope it would no longer be exaggerated," he reportedly said.
Posting taken down
The post on Fawwaz's Facebook read: "In sirah (Prophet's teachings), history shows there has never been an infidel who wants to uphold your religion, dear Muslim, but it has always been reminded in the Quran that (they are out to) bring down your religion."
The post, which has since been taken down, received mixed reactions from netizens. There were those who praised the statement, including people from some religious groups, while others criticised Fawwaz for it.
Some of the critics reminded Fawwaz that his party, PAS, also has a wing for non-Muslims called the PAS Supporters Congress.
Independent Islamic preacher Wan Ji Wan Hussein also commented on the issue by citing several examples of assistance given by non-Muslims to Prophet Muhammad in his dakwah activities, as had been stressed by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang in his book Fiqh al-Harakah.
According to Wan Ji, Abdul Hadi had listed a series of events which showed how non-Muslims had extended their assistance to Prophet Muhammad.
Following the criticisms, an apology note was posted on Fawwaz's Facebook account. Based on the note, the account administrator had taken the responsibility for uploading the posting without Fawwaz's knowledge.
Both the posting and the apology note were later deleted from the account.
Fawwaz, who is also Penang PAS Youth chief, said he would be more careful before having any statement uploaded on his social media account in the future.
He reportedly said that he does not want to disrupt racial and religious harmony in the country. - Mkini
