'Go after the culprits, not messengers' - Syed Saddiq tells cops

Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has taken the police to task for summoning two individuals who linked Umno Youth to a ruckus at a Muda ceramah in October last year.

"I'm utterly shocked with the police action, as they should be investigating the mastermind of the ruckus, instead of hauling up persons who tweeted about it.

"There were repeated provocations during my campaigning, and attendees had also lodged police reports regarding disturbance of public order and damage to public property during the fundraising dinner in Muar, but until today, the matter is still under investigation," the Muar MP said in a statement.

Syed Saddiq (above) was referring to the Muar police calling up Farhan Iqbal, who is his former communications head, as well as Bentong MP Young Syefura Othman's aide Noor Suhana Ishak, to have their statements recorded today.

Suhana and Farhan will give their statements at the Sentul police headquarters this afternoon.

The pair are being investigated under Section 500 of the Penal Code for criminal defamation, which carries up to two years in prison, a fine, or both, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which is punishable with up to one-year imprisonment, a fine up to RM50,000, or both, upon conviction.

Yesterday, Jelutong MP RSN Rayer also demanded the police and Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail provide an explanation for the probe against the duo.

Elaborating, Syed Saddiq urged the police to better use their time, energy and resources to probe who was behind the provocation, instead of going after the whistleblowers. - Mkini
