Looks like the Malaysian comedy scene is gaining more traction despite various setbacks last year.
J Comedy Productions Sdn Bhd has announced Dr Jason Leong’s latest solo comedy special titled “Ride With Caution”, which will be available worldwide on Netflix on Feb 8.
Fans will be thrilled to watch Leong’s takes on politics, current events, parenthood, eating pork in Malaysia and anti-vaxxers.
Those are among the observations in this hour-long solo comedy show that was shot during Leong’s sold-out run in Singapore’s iconic Esplanade - Theatres On the Bay earlier in 2022.
This is Leong’s second appearance on Netflix. His debut special in this streaming service was “Hashtag Blessed” in 2020, which rose to the fourth position on Malaysia's Top 10 Most Watched and eighth on Singapore’s Top 10 Most Watched.
A medical doctor turned professional comedian, Leong is a popular stand-up comedian, content creator and viral video star whose online content across various social media platforms has been viewed by tens of millions of people.
In July 2022, he was selected for the New Faces International Showcase at the Just For Laughs Montreal 2022 Comedy Festival, which was held in late July last year.
He was the only comic from the Southeast Asian comedy scene in the line-up that year.
His show “HEATY” completed a sold-out run at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2022 and sold out two shows at the Esplanade Theatre in Singapore.
