Kedah police promise impartial probe into rape claim against cop

 

The suspect is alleged to have raped the teenage victim in his office at the Yan district police headquarters in Kedah.

PETALING JAYA: Kedah police have promised to conduct a transparent, fair and impartial investigation into the allegation of rape against one of its senior officers.

A 16-year-old girl had accused the police inspector in his 30s of raping her in his office at the Yan district police headquarters in Kedah.

“To ensure that this case is resolved promptly, the investigation is being carried out by a senior officer from the Kedah police headquarters and we would like to assure that the investigations will be transparent, fair and impartial,” Kedah police chief Wan Hassan Wan Ahmad said in a statement today.

The victim, who is a school dropout, lodged a police report regarding the incident on Dec 31, 2022 at 1.31am and gave her statement at the police headquarters before undergoing a check-up at a hospital.

Wan Hassan said the investigation is being carried out under Section 376 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and caning.

The suspect, who is an investigating officer at the Yan district police headquarters is under remand until Jan 5 to facilitate the investigation.

Wan Hassan urged the public not to speculate on the case. - FMT
