Following a shooting rampage in Monterey Park, California last weekend, the MCA has urged for all Malaysians living in the United States to be vigilant.
In a statement, MCA International Communication & Diplomacy Bureau Deputy chairperson Neow Choo Seong said California was a popular location for Malaysians to travel to.
“As such, we are very concerned and disturbed by such a devastating tragedy.
“We would like to urge all Malaysians across the US, especially those who are living in Monterey Park or the nearby cities to remain vigilant and to contact the nearest Malaysian mission for consular assistance should the need arise,” he said.
Neow also called on the Malaysian embassy and consulate offices to monitor the security situation and to provide timely assistance to Malaysian citizens from time to time.
Saturday night’s mass shooting in Monterey Park saw the death of 11 people and another nine wounded.
Police identified Huu Can Tran, 72, as the lone suspect in the massacre that unfolded in the midst of a Lunar New Year celebration.
The US has seen 36 cases of reported mass shootings this month alone. - Mkini
