My brother didn’t die from skull breaker challenge, clarifies sibling

Joel Joseph died on Jan 16 in his sleep, according to his brother Joshua.

KOTA KINABALU: The family of Joel Joseph has denied rumours that the 27-year-old died as a result of the skull breaker challenge, a dangerous prank that trended on social media years ago.

Joshua, Joel’s brother, clarified that his youngest brother died on Jan 16 after suffering a cardiac arrest in his sleep.

“I received a message from my friend this morning saying that my brother’s obituary was being circulated on social media with a message saying that he died because of the skull breaker challenge,” said Joshua.

“I was furious because it’s not true and my family is saddened because of this.”

Joshua also said that Joel was perfectly healthy before his death.

The skull breaker challenge involves two people kicking the legs out from under a third person, causing them to fall over on their back, possibly injuring their heads.

It has been widely criticised for its potential to cause serious injury and even death.

Joel’s family has asked social media users to respect their privacy and requested netizens to refrain from spreading any further misinformation about his death.

“We are going through a very difficult time right now and the last thing we need is for rumours and false information to be spread about how my brother died.” - FMT
