KOTA KINABALU: A swearing-in ceremony for the new Sabah Cabinet is said to be taking place at the palace tomorrow morning.
A purported invitation to assemblymen, a programme for the event and a letter from the palace to the Kota Kinabalu police headquarters went viral on social media today.
Among those who were named in the invitation is Barisan Nasional assemblyman James Ratib.
When contacted, James neither confirmed nor denied receiving an invitation from the palace.
“It could be true, but I have not seen the letter (in person),” he told FMT.
James is among the five BN assemblymen who signed a statutory declaration (SD) supporting Hajiji Noor as the chief minister.
The other four BN assemblymen are Shahelmey Yahya (Tanjung Keramat), Yusof Yacob (Sindumin), Jasnih Daya (Pantai Dalit), and Arsad Bistari (Tempasuk).
A source close to Sabah Umno also confirmed that none of the assemblymen who supported Sabah Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin was invited.
Another source from Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (PKDM) also confirmed that they had not received an invitation.
Sabah Umno, Warisan and PKDM have supported the idea of a unity government by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to end the political impasse in the state.
Earlier today, deputy prime minister and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Anwar had suggested the formation of a unity government in Sabah involving all the parties in the federal government when he met the state’s political leaders last night. - FMT
