PETALING JAYA: Fewer than 500 new Covid-19 cases per day have been recorded since China reopened its borders on Jan 8, health minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa said.

She said that based on the ministry’s reports, there have been a total of 28,705 arrivals from China between Jan 8 and 17. Only one arrival was found to have fever but tested negative for Covid-19.

Zaliha said there were no Covid-19 infections detected among the arrivals from China so far.

“The health ministry will continue to monitor infections in the country and abroad through information obtained from the World Health Organization and joint cooperation between Asean countries as well as China,” she said in a statement today.

“The ministry will always ensure appropriate preventive and control measures are implemented.”

Zaliha said daily Covid-19 cases in Malaysia have remained in the three digits since Dec 17.

She said vaccination rates have also increased over the past two weeks, with 16,292,524 primary booster doses administered.

She advised those who have yet to receive a primary vaccine dose to immediately register for one in view of the Chinese New Year festivities. - FMT
