No more eggs and poultry shortages from now on

The Federation of Livestock Farmers’ Association of Malaysia has given assurance that the supplies of poultry and eggs will return to normal from now on.

The association said that there would also be enough supplies to avoid any shortages.

It lauded the government for solving the issue within the poultry industry where prices of eggs and chicken had to be increased due to limited supplies for the past few months.

“The poultry industry appreciates the government for all its efforts in finding solutions to the losses in the industry due to the various challenges which were both experienced worldwide and locally.

“The government support helped the industry to remain operational which has given the industry confidence to work harder in increasing production and to ensure food security at reasonable prices,” the association said.

Last December, the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry decided to temporarily permit the import of chicken eggs from outside sources, with plans to reassess the decision after the domestic supply has stabilised.

As of now, eggs will be temporarily imported from India in phases to overcome egg supply shortages in Malaysia.

Minister Mohamad Sabu explained that the move was made because local producers were unable to meet the demand. - Mkini
