PH reaffirms support for Hajiji amid talk of move to unseat him

PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan assemblymen in Sabah have reaffirmed their support for chief minister Hajiji Noor amid rumours that the latter’s administration would be toppled.

In a joint statement, the seven assemblymen said they were sticking to their stand made in November.

Two months ago, the seven agreed to back Hajiji until the end of his administration’s term in 2025.

The seven are Christina Liew, Frankie Poon, Ewon Benedick, Jannie Lasimbang, Phoong Jin Zhe, Tan Lee Fatt and Peto Galim.

“We would like to state our collective stand to ensure political stability in Sabah,” they said in a brief statement.

Yesterday, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) said it was prepared to prove that Hajiji still enjoyed majority support in the state assembly.

GRS secretary-general Masidi Manjun said there were claims by certain parties that they had secured the support of more than half of the Sabah assemblymen to enable them to form a new state government.

Separately, GRS information chief Joniston Bangkuai said those who aspired to take over the state government should wait until the next state election to do so.

“Why hatch a plot to unseat the state government at a time when our focus should be on intensifying efforts to develop the state?”

Joniston said it was regrettable that certain quarters never let up on trying to undermine Hajiji’s administration.

Joniston, who is also Parti Bersatu Sabah information chief, said any move that could bring about political instability in Sabah should be avoided.

He went on to say that under Hajiji’s leadership, the state had seen tremendous growth, including recording the highest state revenue ever of RM6.6 billion in 2022. - FMT
