Perikatan Nasional will be deliberate in its selection of candidates ahead of the six state polls, particularly in Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Penang, said its secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin.
This is because the coalition wants to ensure that the chosen candidates will have the support of all parties, including the non-Malay community, he added.
“I believe PN can win big in all states (for the state elections).
“But, when we talk about Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Penang, we really need to make sure that all the candidates this time are accepted by everyone, not only Malays but also non-Malays.
“We have to understand that the times are very uncertain, we are now in the time of elections. If we talk about negotiations, we have to be careful about candidates," he told reporters at the Gerakan Chinese New Year open house in Kuala Lumpur.
Asked about negotiations ahead of the polls, Hamzah replied that he was confident PN was capable of winning in all the states it contests in.
“This time we want to win Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and if possible Penang.
“(With regard to) the Malay seats in Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu, God willing, I believe we can win this time just like the seats we won in GE15, maybe even better," he said.
The Larut MP declined to reveal when the PN-led states will dissolve their state legislative assemblies.
“(The date) of dissolution - let us keep it to ourselves. There are things that can be said, others that cannot be said,” Hamzah added. - Mkini
