PETALING JAYA: Policies implemented by previous administrations will be continued if they are not plagued by “major issues”, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said.
This is because pulling the plug on certain policies will lead to disruptions, he said.
“As a general rule, previous announcements should be honoured although we might have some reservations. Otherwise, it will cause a lot of disruptions,” he said at a forum in Brunei Darussalam yesterday.
However, Anwar said policies that contained “serious flaws” would be reviewed.
“If some provisions contravene certain basic principles, or if it was done through dubious means, I will not do it (retain the policy),” he said.
He was responding to a question from the audience on additional exemptions for taxes on foreign income.
Last year, the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) announced additional tax exemption eligibility for taxpayers with overseas dividend income received while staying in Malaysia from Jan 1, 2022 to Dec 31, 2026. - FMT
