KOTA KINABALU: Seventeen stilt houses in a coastal village in Semporna were razed in a fire on Thursday (Jan 19) morning.
No casualties were reported.
The state Fire and Rescue Department said it received a report at 9.20am about the incident at Kampung Bangau-Bangau.
"Our team had difficulty in reaching the location using boats due to shallow seawater, thus they had to walk 150m from the boats (to get there).
"The operation involved two channels, namely via a 200ft hose and two open water sources.
"The blaze was under control at 9.58am and after ensuring there are no more risks, it ended at 11.15am," said a spokesman.
