MIC's C Sivarraajh has resigned from the board of trustees of the Maju Institute of Educational Development (MIED) - the party's educational arm - to focus on strengthening the party.
"I've always been a party man. The grassroots are always with me.
"The Indians rejected MIC in the 15th general election (GE15), so I want to focus on bringing back the trust of the Indians. We have to provide leadership for them... that is the core foundation of MIC since 1946," he told Malaysiakini when contacted.
He denied claims by certain quarters that his resignation from MIED was a sign of him distancing himself from MIC.
According to Sivarraajh (above), he quit the position even before the MIC annual general meeting in October last year, and therefore, there's no basis for claims that it was linked to the party's disastrous showing in GE15.
Sivarraajh stressed that post-resignation (from MIED), he wants to focus on MIC and politics.
"MIC should be a check and balance element in the new coalition," he noted.
Sivarraajh was supposed to have been BN's candidate for the Padang Serai parliamentary seat in GE15, but polling for the constituency was postponed following the death of its incumbent M Karuppaiya on Nov 16, just days before the polling day.
BN's cooperation with Pakatan Harapan to form the government post-GE15 saw Sivarraajh making way for Harapan's Sofee Razak. - Mkini
