Govt school criticised for unhealthy food offering for the children

A NATION is only as strong as the unity of its people. That said, the seeds of unity are best planted in the hearts of the young, when they are still schooling.

Alongside this comes the fiery idea that vernacular schools should be closed and have all the students learning and interacting with each other under one roof.

So far, many Malaysians are not keen on the idea. Some have even pointed out the many Malay families that send their children to Chinese schools to learn instead.

And they have a point, no pun intended. Perhaps a recent video post on X will also serve as a basis for argument towards maintaining vernacular schools.

In the video, netizens could see a wide array of junk food being served to the students in a government school.

The video can also be found at: https://x.com/zulazri03/status/2011614908782428178

Huge trays containing french fries, fried nuggets and burgers populated the table, giving the impression of a fast food restaurant instead of a canteen that catered to these growing students.

According to netizen @DrKhairulAnwar who watched the video, food in the canteen of the Malaysian schools has yet to improve even after three decades.

Then there was also a helpful comment from a fellow netizen, comparing the fare between a government and Chinese vernacular school:

@minmino_93 further suggested that the Ministry Of Health should make a centralised kitchen such as in China, Japan and Korea.

On the other hand, @GreenRambutans said the parents can form a canteen association at school to manage the food of their children. “This should lower the burden of the schools from taking care of dietary matters. Teachers can focus on education,” he said.

But @SilencerMuto thinks the idea of making healthy food for the children is easier said than done. According to him, such meals will have difficulty selling as the parents themselves have trouble getting their children to eat healthy. — Focus Malaysia
