THERE IS this charming quote from Mahatma Gandhi that says, “the greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.”
When our actions have no consequences, we tend to behave the way we naturally are, and that could spell trouble to the voiceless stakeholders such as the animals, or even our fellow humans in poverty.
Recently, a video post on X grabbed quite the attention on the cyberspace, showing a monkey with its arms bound behind its back like it was handcuffed.
It could be seen struggling with the bonds, hopping from dustbin to dustbin and surprisingly, even being able to climb a tree, although with much difficulty.
The video can also be found at: https://x.com/mynewshub/status/2011478094511583692?s=20
While the person who binds the monkey’s arm might find it humorous, the majority of the netizens found it plain distasteful.

According to netizen @mhazone1988, the monkey was most likely caught to be eaten just like in Thailand. However, some netizens were not so sympathetic such as @Tobiaqguy who said people who have experienced these monkeys disturbing their home will understand.

“Should have wrapped his eyes too,” said a disturbed @Sulaiman2KA.

On another note, the man who recorded the video has since made a statement to clarify the situation.
Under the account name of vortexbundle, he said the monkey was the neighbour’s pet. Apparently, the creature was bound due to its habit of playing with the electrical wires.
The viral videos have already been taken down from his social media platform. Regardless, anyone can observe from the video that the monkey was experiencing distress by having its arm bound and contorted at such an angle.
If owners can’t handle all that monkey business, perhaps they should just get a pet tortoise or a goldfish instead. — Focus Malaysia
