‘Lost cool’ McD’s woman mgr in JB chastised for reprimanding service crew in front of customers

WHETHER one’s downline is at fault or otherwise, never succumb to customer pressure by admonishing the staff in public.

Such was the online bashing levelled at a McDonald’s Setia Tropika woman manager in Johor Bahru for ‘screaming’ at a presumably intern service crew amid grouses of slow customer service by patrons of the fast-food outlet.

Caught on camera, the viral incident was re-posted by @bckupacc99 on X with the reminder, “So rude, please don’t scold your staff in front of customers.”

Jaga air muka sikit. Tak ada adab. (Do take care of your reputation; it’s uncivilised),” counselled the digital creator in a post which has amassed 314.9K views, 2K likes, 104 comments and 548 shares.

He went on to share a response from fellow social media influence Izzati Kamsani who claimed to have previously berated a McD’s manager for a somehow similar incident.

“I wanted him/her to know the shame the staff went through.  I know my actions were wrong but I also know I’ve to teach him/her a lesson.

“As it was peak hours at that time, customers would understand if things were slow. But as a customer, I never see staff being yelled at in front of people. Since then, I haven’t seen that manager at McD’s again. If you need to yell, pull the staff to the back – never do so in public.”

Well, like it or not, “there’s bound to be a long-face woman manager in every McD’s branch who brings toxicity to the McD’s community”, observed one commenter.

One commenter urged McD’s Malaysia “to fire the woman (manager) as all the staff are exhausted from fasting, not her alone”.

Another blamed the apparently Chinese customers whose voices could be heard grousing of slow service.

“(The) Type C customers are just as bad. They’re really pushy as if they’re right all the time,” fumed the commenter. “This piled pressure on the manager who couldn’t scream back at her customers, hence she took it out on her staff. Both are equally dumb.”

Interestingly, the incident also makes waves on Threads with the video’s uploader appealing that “both parties should be heard”.

This was when one Threadster shared his personal experience of having worked in McD’s by describing the incident as somehow a norm that “female managers behave😌by scolding the staff even though they’re new”.

“You’re supposed to guide – not yell – at them … Then when many of the staff resigned, they kept wondering why new recruitment was hard to come by.

“In front of the RGM (revenue growth manager), they would paint a rosy picture😴 … That’s why I don’t like to work under woman bosses; male bosses tend to be cool so long as the work gets done.”

Cursing at the woman manager, a Sabahan commenter took pity on the intern staff who according to him “is a vocational college student based on his T-shirt bearing SLDN (dual national training scheme)”.

“This is a McD’s Industry programme with this school, hence he’s probably doing his practical there,” he added.

True or otherwise, a female commenter reckoned that “one has to be strong-hearted to work under Malay women superiors” for they have high tendencies to reprimand others in public “in order to be stylish”.
