KOTA BELUD: Fourteen semi-permanent houses were destroyed in a fire at Kampung Melangkap Kapa here this morning.
Of the total, 10 houses were completely razed, while four sustained about 10 per cent damage. No casualties were reported.
Kota Belud Fire and Rescue Station chief, Elge Bakuk, said the department received an emergency call at 10.57am.
He said seven personnel, together with two members of the Pangkalan Abai Volunteer Fire Brigade, were deployed to the scene, located approximately 36km from the station.
"The team arrived at 11.48am and found the fire had affected 14 houses, with 10 completely destroyed.
"The fire rescue team appliance could not enter the area due to narrow access roads and an unstable bridge," he said in a statement today.
Elge added that firefighting operations were carried out using two lines of about 91m with two hoses, supported by a mobile pump drawing water from a nearby river.
"The fire was brought under control at 12.21pm, and overhaul work was conducted to ensure no remaining embers could reignite the blaze," he said. - NST
