PAS has indicated that it has a single candidate from its ranks for the post of Perikatan Nasional chairperson, even as a coalition partner urged caution, saying no official name had yet been put forward.
PAS Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden said he understood that only one candidate from his party was being considered for the position to replace Muhyiddin Yassin, which is expected to be filled at PN's extraordinary supreme council meeting tomorrow.
"As far as I understand, there is only one candidate from PAS.
"God willing, with the blessings of Ramadan, I expect the meeting to proceed harmoniously," Afnan (above) told Berita Harian.
However, Malaysian Indian People's Party (MIPP) president P Punithan struck a more cautious tone, saying the appointment of a new PN chairperson was no straightforward matter and that his party had not yet received any official name to consider.
"We will wait until tomorrow. There is no official candidate yet for us to make a decision on. There needs to be a consensus...we will wait to see who is put forward, and only then will we make our decision," he reportedly said.
"It is not so straightforward to choose a PN chairperson because many things need to be examined thoroughly," he added, confirming that MIPP would also be nominating its own candidate at the meeting.

Gerakan is also expected to attend the meeting scheduled at the PAS party headquarters in Jalan Raja Laut, Kuala Lumpur.
Yesterday, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said that the meeting will decide on candidates for both the PN chairperson’s post and the opposition leader’s post held by Hamzah Zainudin - who was sacked from the party on Feb 13 with 16 others.
He also hinted that leaders of both rival factions had met him to present their side of the story.
Hadi, however, declined to reveal whether the former Bersatu deputy president had requested to join PAS. - Mkini
