Has Firdaus Wong led rightists to believe law was lopsided with Zamri Vinoth hauled to court handcuffed?

FIRDAUS Wong Wai Hung has somehow emerged the biggest vindicator and key opinion leader (KOL) in framing public perception towards fellow Muslim convert preacher Zamri Vinoth – first by disputing why the latter was handcuffed to face the charge of making racially/religiously provocative remarks.

This came about after Hindu activist Arun Dorasamy who faces a similar charge as Zamri under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code was photographed un-handcuffed and seen accompanied by DAP’s Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) M. Kulasegaran to court.

Both pleaded not guilty with Zamri, 42, charged at the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court in relation to the organisation of a rally in front of SOGO Kuala Lumpur last month while Arun, 56, was charged at the Jawi Magistrate’s Court in mainland Penang for an Instagram video threatening a street protest against Zamri.

“Zamri (was) handcuffed, Arun not!” the Multiracial Reverted Muslims (MRM) founder drew comparisons of so-called glaring injustices across numerous social media platforms.

Zamri (was) under tight police guard (while) Arun (was) accompanied by DAP’s Deputy Law Minister without police guard!

Zamri was hunted internationally while Arun was asked to come voluntarily even though the charges are the same.

Editor’s Note: In addition to Zamri and Arun, two other activists were also simultaneously charged in court yesterday (March 17) – a trend berated as “balancing act” by United Rights of Malaysian Party (Urimai) interim council chairman Prof Ramasamy Palanisasmy.

They were anti-kuil haram vigilante Tamrin Dahri Abdul Razak at the Langkawi’s Magistrate’s Court for trampling on the Hindu sacred trident and e-hailing driver P. Mahendra Bhoopathy at the Seremban’s Magistrate’s Court for uploading a video on his FB account questioning the land status of a mosque.

Has the IGP erred?

Aside from admitting that he came forward to settle Zamri’s RM4.500 bail, Firdaus had also contradicted Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Ismail’s claim that Zamri had fled to Thailand by citing Hariz Yusof who is lawyer of the Angkatan Skuad Mubaligh Malaysia’s president.

“Zamri went to Thailand legally on March 9 and returned to Malaysia legally on March 12 while the IGP’s statement was (issued) on March 13,” revealed founder of Malay language news portal, The Merdeka Times.

“And yesterday (March 16), the IGP issued a statement that Zamri may still be in the country”.

Suffice by literally letting the pictures do the talking, Firdaus went 3-0 up in subtly championing the innocence of Zamri by mocking Kulasegaran who is also the Ipoh Barat MP for his deemed excuse of “I just stopped by for a moment” after he was seen ‘escorting’ Arun to court.

“If Kula were just a DAP politician and had no cabinet position, it might be understandable,” jibed the 43-year-old Jinjang, Kuala Lumpur-raised preacher who embrace Islam at 22.

If Kula were just stopping by and encouraging Arun to trust the legal process when facing his court proceedings, are you implying that he doesn’t trust or doesn’t know the legal process?

“If you were the Human Resources Minister, maybe your presence would be understandable although you’re still unprofessional. But are you aware that you’re the Deputy Law Minister?

Whether Firdaus has indirectly showcased his  political slant in his quest to vindicate his brother of the same faith is as good as anybody’s guess as he took a swipe at former DAP Komtar state assemblyman Ng Wei Aik for justifying that Zamri had to be handcuffed amid tight police escort out of concern that he would “run away”.

“Have you ever wondered why one by one DAP politician is willing to stand out on this issue?” he jibed.

“I wonder if he has read the court proceedings before he suddenly ‘backed up’ his members and accused Zamri of potentially fleeing?” – Focus Malaysia
