On DAP's 60th anniversary, Gobind urges party to push ahead on building united Malayia

DAP marked its 60th anniversary of being registered today, amid simmering discontent among supporters over its role in the government.

Party chairperson Gobind Singh Deo, however, said today should mark a renewal of DAP's goal of building a united country.

"We envision a nation that is prosperous and grounded in integrity, where growth is shared, opportunities are accessible, and public trust in institutions continues to strengthen," he said in a statement.

"To every member, our grassroots leaders, and all of you who have stood by us, your commitment, your voice and your contribution have sustained us.

"As we mark this milestone, let this be a renewal of resolve. Let us push ahead with our ultimate aim, which is to build a Malaysia which is united, strong and successful," he added.

Regarding its role in government, the digital minister said DAP's role is not only to hold office but to deliver meaningful reforms that benefit all.

Gobind's message comes 116 days before DAP is set to have a special meeting where delegates will decide whether the party will continue to hold office.

After suffering a wipeout in the Sabah election last November, DAP has been pushing Putrajaya to hasten its reform agenda.

The party's top leadership has also been more vocal on public scandals, such as pushing for a royal commission of inquiry to investigate allegations that the MACC colluded with private individuals to shake down business rivals.

DAP is also grappling with rising racial tensions in the country as conservative Malay groups and Hindus grow increasingly agitated with one another over the issue of unauthorised temples and religious incitement.

Gobind's message about building a united Malaysia is likely to provoke critics, as it echoes the party's much-maligned "Malaysian Malaysia" vision, which right-wing Malays pan as an attempt to undermine bumiputera. - Mkini
