KUALA LUMPUR: Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) will add 228 train services between March 17 and 29 to meet strong demand from travellers returning to their hometowns for Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said that of the total, 196 services will be for the Electric Train Service (ETS), while 32 will be for the EMU Plus services.
He added that KTMB is providing a total of 251,752 ETS seats, a 113% increase compared with the 118,440 seats offered last year.
“The increase in ETS services this year is made possible by the full delivery of 10 ETS3 train sets, in addition to the existing ETS fleet.
“This enables KTMB to optimise capacity and make travel easier for members of the public returning to their hometowns,” he said.
Loke said this at a press conference held after the 2026 Hari Raya Aidilfitri food distribution event for KTMB passengers on Tuesday (March 17).
He added that train frequency will also be increased to 64 trips a day, with services running 24 hours throughout the peak period.
"KTMB is also able to increase ETS services to a maximum of 70 trips a day, subject to passenger demand.
"This initiative represents the largest expansion of train services in KTMB’s history, reflecting the continued commitment of the government and KTMB to ensure more people can return to their hometowns comfortably and safely,” he said.
He added that KTMB has deployed 310 auxiliary police personnel at all major stations. - Star
