PETALING JAYA:
Outgoing Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief Azam Baki has ruled out going into politics after he leaves office, saying his career as a civil servant had been centred on serving the public, which he found fulfilling.

He said he had been honoured that his service as head of the agency had been extended past the end of his contract period; he expressed gratitude to Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim for allowing him the opportunity to serve in the role, Berita Harian reported.

Azam said he had yet to decide on his plans after his tenure ends on May 12. He said he intends to remain active and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

“I am still healthy, I can jog, cycle and carry on with my daily activities. So I am not going anywhere,” he said.

He called on MACC officers and staff to give their full cooperation to incoming chief Abdul Halim Aman, who will assume office on May 13.

“I am confident MACC will continue to excel under the new chief commissioner,” he was quoted as saying at an event in Kuala Pilah today.

Azam was appointed MACC chief commissioner on March 9, 2020, succeeding Latheefa Koya, and received three one-year extensions to his contract.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed his appreciation for Azam’s service, saying he had carried out his duties “as best as possible”. - FMT
