
NIAH: Police have arrested a foreigner suspected of threatening to kill his younger sister with a parang at Ladang Suai 2, Jalan BLD, Ulu Suai here yesterday.
Miri district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the incident was reported to police at 1.44pm by the 35-year-old victim after she received threats from her 37-year-old brother at her home.
"Following the report, police launched a search operation to track down the suspect, who is believed to have fled shortly after the incident.
"The suspect was later arrested in a raid at a plantation hut near Wilmar Suai 1 Oil Palm Estate, based on intelligence and information gathered," he said in a statement.
Farhan said a further search at the arrest location led to the discovery of several dangerous items believed to belong to the suspect.
"Police seized a parang and a homemade shotgun along with six rounds of ammunition," he said.
He said that the suspect had been remanded for four days until April 27 to assist investigations, and urine screening also found him positive for drugs.
The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, which carries a jail term of up to seven years, a fine, or both upon conviction.
It is also being investigated under Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960 for possession of a firearm without authorisation. - NST
