Woman in viral bus video was ‘excited to drive’, say cops

 Jasin police chief Lee Robert says the woman and the bus driver have been detained, with a remand application to be filed tomorrow at the magistrates' court.

 The woman seen in a viral video sitting on an express bus driver’s lap while he drove said she did so because she was excited and interested in driving a bus, police said.

Jasin police chief Lee Robert said the 21-year-old, who is also the girlfriend of the 36-year-old driver, said this in her statement to police earlier today, Berita Harian reported.

He said the woman, who works as a ticket counter clerk at another bus company, also told investigators she had known the man for about five months.

Lee said both of them were questioned for about two hours and were detained today. A remand application will be filed at the Jasin magistrates’ court tomorrow.

They are being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The video, believed to have been recorded by a passenger, showed the woman sitting on the driver’s lap and holding the steering wheel while the vehicle was on a highway.

The incident occurred on April 12 at about 7.30pm near the southbound entrance of the Bemban R&R area.

The bus driver has since been sacked. - FMT
