Johor BN, PH’s decision to go solo has no bearing at federal level, says Fahmi

 The PH communications director says the decision by the two chapters to contest all 56 seats was made at the state level.

JOHOR BAHRU:

The decision by Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan in Johor to contest all 56 seats at the next state election will have no bearing on the cooperation between the two coalitions at the federal level, PH communications director Fahmi Fadzil said.

Fahmi said the decision by Johor BN, and later by its PH counterpart, was made at the state level, Bernama reported.

He did not rule out that BN might negotiate with PH on the matter.

“Maybe,” he was quoted as saying.

Earlier today, Johor PH announced that it will contest all 56 seats in the upcoming state election, in response to BN’s decision yesterday to field candidates in every constituency.

The Johor state assembly will automatically dissolve in April next year if an election is not held before then, after which the polls must be held within 60 days.

BN formed the Johor government after winning 40 of the 56 seats in the last state election in March 2022. PH won 12 seats, Perikatan Nasional secured three, and Muda won one.

Last night, Johor PKR chief Dr Zaliha Mustafa said PH was prepared to enter into three-cornered fights at the coming Johor polls. She also said PH was not surprised by Johor BN’s decision to go solo. - FMT
