KUALA LUMPUR: A woman wielding a knife at the Rain Rave Water Music Festival in Bukit Bintang was arrested last night after being tackled by festival-goers and security personnel.
Footage of the incident, which occurred during the festival's final night, has since circulated widely online.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus confirmed the arrest of the 28-year-old woman, the Malay Mail reported.
Fadil said that she was among a crowd of approximately 30,000 attendees when the incident broke out.
She is currently being held for possession of a weapon and will undergo the remand process today.
In a video shared by Instagram user @jxsttin, the woman is seen being held by a man attempting to disarm and contain her.
Several others, including security personnel, later stepped in to assist, wrestling her to the ground.
She was pinned face-down and held until police arrived to handcuff and take her into custody.
Fadil praised the public for their quick action and cooperation, noting that the situation remained under control despite the massive crowd.
He added that 500 officers, including reinforcements from Bukit Aman and all district police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, had been deployed to strategic locations to maintain order throughout the event.
Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing was also present at the festival last night. - NST
